Kathy Jager, a celebrated sportswoman, tested positive for anabolic steroids at the 2011 USA National Masters Outdoor Track And Field Championships in Berea. That’s why this sportswoman was banned from participation in competitions. Kathy Jager can’t compete till the age of 70. This decision was made by the United States Anti-Doping Agency.
This athlete applied steroids because these medicines were recommended by the doctor to stabilize her hormone balance. According to the establishments of World Anti-Doping Agency, sportsmen may use steroids for medical needs and participate in competitions, if they have got a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE). But as it is known, Kathy Jager didn’t have a TUE that could allow her to utilize these drugs without being banned from competitions.
It is necessary to mention that Kathy Jager doesn’t treat administration of anabolic steroids seriously.
This athlete tested positive for methyltestosterone at the 1999 World Association of Veteran Athletes World Championships in Gateshead (Great Britain) after she had broken world records in running of 100 meters. That competition was between athletes of 55-59 years old. It was the first time she was banned for application of banned substances. Now it was her second time.
As it is known, this sportsperson utilized EstraTest HS that contained esterified estrogens and methyltestosterone in a tablet.
Kathy Jager pointed out that she had administrated EstraTest for medical needs. But the World Masters Association didn’t believe and didn’t allow her to take part in competitions.
This case caused numerous debates. Several people condemned her for intake of banned preparations, others defended her.
When she was banned the first time, she administrated steroids in order to prevent menopausal problems. The drugs were prescribed by her physician. Then she discontinued taking recommended drugs and began to administrate herbal preparations.
So, this athlete must not participate in competitions till the age of 70 years old. If she had received a TUE, she could compete. But nobody knows whether the WADA will give her a TUE or not.
