Steroid use and police officers

Many people suppose that “roid rage” or uncontrolled aggressive behavior is a normal undesirable reaction that appears in those who use steroids. Furthermore, certain individuals claim that it is even impossible to avoid this unwanted symptom, if you use steroids. Nonetheless, it is not proven scientifically that it is a real unwanted symptom of anabolic steroids. But even if we suppose that it exists, it may occur only in small number of steroid users.
Since a lot of individuals consider that “roid rage” is a negative reaction of anabolic steroids, numerous ill-informed legislative suggestions were made. Some such proposals have been made in Oregon. It has been proposed to introduce some new laws. According to these new laws, if any police officers have used deadly force, or if police force resulted in certain injuries, they have to be tested for steroids.
The same proposal was made by the politician Lew Frederick in Oregon House of Representatives. Those police officials that have applied deadly force will be investigated, tested for some drugs and their mental health will be also evaluated.
Actually, it is unclear why police officials that are involved in deadly force will be tested for steroids. Can steroid use prove that use of deadly force was unjustified? Is it confirmed that steroids because of aggressiveness can make police officers unable to make reasonable decisions?
Investigation team is a reasonable idea for police officials that apply deadly force. But intake of steroids is not to be taken in consideration here. Positives or negatives for steroids can’t define whether deadly force has been applied properly or not. It doesn’t matter a police officer has applied steroids, aspirin or just drunk juice.
Thus, it is possible to make a conclusion that legislators turn to be captivated by hysteria linked with “roid rage” of anabolic steroids. It goes without saying that illegal administration of steroids by police officers has to be a legitimate concern. But it is not said about uncontrolled aggressiveness as a main reason in this situation. The problem is that illegal intake of controlled substances by police officers makes them vulnerable to corruption and the black market of steroids. Such police officers may compromise.
