Steroids and brain cells

You know that steroids are taken by several sportsmen in order to induce muscle mass and energy. But according to recent researches, taking of steroids is a too harmful aspect for brain cells. Since these medicines induce level of testosterone in body, they affect and even destroy brain cells. This confirmation about destruction of brain cells by increased level of testosterone was proven by a research conducted by Yale School of Medicine that was published in the Journal of Biological Chemistry.
Scientists say that abnormal aggressiveness shown by steroids consumers show that certain amount of brain cells was killed due to administration of steroids.
Barbara Ehrlich, a professor, a leader of a research related to administration of steroids, recommends not to condemn those who take steroids, when they act aggressively. It is necessary to realize that it may be not their blame. Steroids must have had fault of aggressiveness of those who take these products.
The research leaded by Yale School of Medicine showed that testosterone destructed brain cells. One of main functions of testosterone produced naturally is following: to kill brain cells that can be dangerous for the whole body due to their damages. But when level of this hormone is induced, it destroys not only destructed cells but healthy ones too. It can lead to such serious problems, as appearing of Alzheimer's and Huntingdon's disease and others.

Aggressiveness of hamsters due to steroids
Hamsters were recruited in one of studies published in the journal Behavioral Neuroscience. The scientists participated in the research observed effects of anabolic steroids upon the hamsters. The hamsters that were given these drugs became too aggressive. Their brain activity was changed much due to these preparations.
The researches made a conclusion that steroids affected people’s brain the same way as hamsters’ brain. According to their words, people think that steroids are forbidden due to their athletic effects. But they must realize that the chief reason is negative influence of these medications upon human health. These drugs must be applied only for treatment of diseases by prescriptions of specialists. Administration of steroids in sports has to be avoided totally.
